The in-person Sewing Classes take place in Hunterdon County in High Bridge, New Jersey.

That’s 1 hour from New York City and 1 hour 15 minutes from Philadelphia by car (1 hour, 45 minutes by train from NYC).

📍 It’s wonder tape. Or basting tape. It typically washes away, and it comes in 1/4” / 6 mm and 1/8 “ / 3mm widths.

It’s wonderful for keeping the zipper in place as you sew it - and you don’t need to baste or use pins.

I usually get mine at @wawaksewing (not an advertisement. I pay for it, but I really love their service - and that they have the 1/8” (3 mm) size!)

It’s the most important sewing tool and you shouldn’t ignore it. Here is why: 👇🏼

Recently, I’ve met a lot of sewing students that tell me that they don’t even have an iron. Especially not an ironing board. I don’t know if it’s a generational thing or if it’s just not that common to iron your stuff anymore.

But for Sewing it’s absolutely necessary to have a good iron!

1. To cut the fabric precisely, it has to be wrinkle free, so you always have to iron your fabric before you cut it.
2. we aim to get our seams as flat as and almost as invisible as possible. To achieve this, we need to press the seams either open or to the side.

You don’t have to buy a very expensive iron. You can get a very affordable one guest around $15 - $20. And it’s always asking your local by nothing group or check out the thrift store for a cheaper option.

Meet Nova - @nova_thecocoalab - my daughter’s service dog = my grand puppy 🦮

One of the Service Dog pieces on her service dog vest kept falling off. I sewed the Velcro in place in less than 2 minutes.

Other mending I have done while my kids have been visiting:
- 🧵Sewed bathing suit straps back on.
- 🧵Shortened bikini straps.
- 🧵Altered a thrifted vintage dress to fit a smaller bust.

How to refresh and get new inspiration for your sewing projects 🧵🪡

Last week I got up from my sewing table, where I was putting finishing touches on the upcoming zipper online course, picked up my kids at the airport and spent the rest of the week vacationing with them.

Read on for the *real* answer..

My feed have been filled with recently organized - and very clean - sewing rooms this week.
As you might know, I have not one, but two (2) sewing rooms. And none of them are clean, so that made me feel a little bad about everything...

Today I have in-person students coming, so I needed to get the downstairs studio ready. I had been dreading it. Thinking it would take forever.

So I timed it.
and it took 6 minutes and 5 seconds to vacuum and put everything away,

✨6 minutes. ✨

My best guess for how I can do it that fast is:
I have two shelfes in that studio.
One is for books and patterns (and houses the printer, extra paper, and a box of scraps for students to use)

The other is for fabric, tools, and sewing supplies.

And then I have a clothes rack for finished and unfinished projects + a cart for student tools like rulers, pens, scissors etc.

My point is - I know where everything is going. It might not look super styled and color-coordinated. But it works.

You can keep up - and even add to the enjoyment of your sewing hobby - even when you are away from your sewing stuff.

Here’s how:
1) ✨Practice Handsewing ✨
Focus on a couple of stitches and practice them. If you are new, I suggest Catch stitches and ladder stitches. You can practice while chatting with friends after dinner, or while hanging out at the pool. (You can get needles and thread at even the smallest supermarkets.)

2) ✨ Learn Something new. ✨
Enroll in an online class, find a sewing book in a thrift store, or watch your favorite you tube. You can watch videos or read e-books on your phone or iPad, even while chilling at the beach. Getting an overview before trying a new technique will make it easier to do when you’re back in your sewing space.

3) ✨Plan your upcoming sewing projects. ✨
Use a notepad and plan ahead to the sewing you dream of doing when you are back. Note down fabric wishes, pattern ideas and details. Armchair sewing at it’s best!
