The Danette wide-legged dress pants dress was designed for drapey and flowey woven fabrics. We like bottom-weight wool crepe, rayon blends or soft linen. You could also use fabric intended for men’s trousers. The grey pair is made in a RPL (Rayon/Poly/Lycra) from Gorgeous Fabrics.
Apart from the fabric, you will need:
- Interfacing for the facings and the fly extension
- 35 cm (14”) pocket lining or a remnant of thin cotton or similar
- A pants zipper at least 15 cm (6”) long (preferably in plastic, so that it’s easy to shorten)
- Button or pants hook-and-eye
If you’re wondering how much fabric you’ll need for the pants, think about how long you want them and how wide the fabric is. The pattern is designed for someone who is 5’6″ tall, but other factors can influence the amount of fabric required, such as design changes or fabric orientation. The fabric requirements chart is an estimate, so to be more precise, you can lay out the pattern pieces and measure the space they occupy.
